چکیده

Therefore, practitioners have adapted standard tools in a simple way: first, convert the heterogeneous distribution of income and non-income characteristics into an equivalent distribution of living standards and second, apply the preferred standard tool to the distribution of living standards, either unweighted, or weighted by the number of individuals. The essence of the living standard function is thus to compress both income and non-income characteristics into a single comparable measure of well-being. This compression is often performed by dividing income by an equivalence scale factor to obtain equivalent incomes. Glewwe (1991) suggests that transfers from poor to rich could decrease inequality. Both Ebert (1997) and Shorrocks (1995) analyze this problem formally and show that, under some standard assumptions, the problem essentially boils down to an incompatibility between Pareto indifference1 — which requires indifference between two distributions with equal living standards for all individuals — and a between type PigouDalton (BTPD) transfer principle — which socially prefers mean-preserving income

What Are We Measuring When We Evaluate Journals?

This article undertakes two studies to examine issues related to journal rankings. Study 1 examines the consistency between journal rankings reported in past studies. It finds that while there is consistency when comparing these studies, this consistency does not always occur outside the top-ranked journals. Study 2 explores whether individuals believe that the weighting of four underlying eval...

Rare variant analysis of blood pressure phenotypes in the Genetic Analysis Workshop 18 whole genome sequencing data using sequence kernel association test

Sequence kernel association test (SKAT) has become one of the most commonly used nonburden tests for analyzing rare variants. Performance of burden tests depends on the weighting of rare and common variants when collapsing them in a genomic region. Using the systolic and diastolic blood pressure phenotypes of 142 unrelated individuals in the Genetic Analysis Workshop 18 data, we investigated wh...

Individual Confidence-Weighting and Group Decision-Making.

Group-living species frequently pool individual information so as to reach consensus decisions such as when and where to move, or whether a predator is present. Such opinion-pooling has been demonstrated empirically, and theoretical models have been proposed to explain why group decisions are more reliable than individual decisions. Behavioural ecology theory frequently assumes that all individ...

Investigation of the Fractional Composition Effect of the Carbonate Weighting Agents on the Rheology of the Clayless Drilling Mud

The article considers the issue of reducing the influence of clayless mud components on the filtration parameters of the reservoir. In the composition of such solutions, calcium carbonate of various fractions is often added as a weighting and colmatizing additive. It is generally accepted that weighting bridging agents are sufficiently inert substances and their addition does not affect the rhe...

Inating It Points of View or Opin

Because previous reports have suggested that the lowered validity of tests scored with empirical option weights might be explained by a capitalization of the keying procedures on omitting tendencies, a procedure was devised to key options empirically with a "correction-for-guessing" constraint. Use of the new procedure with Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) data resulted in smaller increases i...
